Independent test lab AV-Comparatives recently published results from their security products Performance Test on 16 leading cybersecurity brands, as well as Malware Protection Test results. In both studies, Total Defense Essential Anti-Virus was tested and received the highest Advanced+ AV-Comparatives awards.
“It is an honor to receive recognition from AV-Comparatives, which further attests to Total Defense’s commitment to offering our customers the highest level of protection without negative impact on speed and performance,” stated Larry Guerin, General Manager at Total Defense.
Performance
The Performance Test evaluates the impact of anti-virus software on system performance, as programs running in background – such as real time protection antivirus software – use some percentage of system resources. Total Defense Essential Anti-Virus emerged as one of the highest ranked brands.
Scores were produced through any apparent slow down a computer system underwent while the antivirus software was running vs. the computer speed without the antivirus software. To acquire an overall look, the test measured numerous common computer functions.
Total Defense ranked “very fast” in the tests, proving to have minimal impact on system performance. The “impact score” — where lower is better — awarded to Total Defense Anti-virus was 3.4, earning the highest AV-Comparatives award of Advanced+ for Performance.

Malware Protection
To conduct the test, AV-Comparatives compiled a test set of 10,970 recent malware samples. All security products were installed on a fully up-to-date 64-Bit Microsoft Windows 10 Pro RS5 system and tested using default settings with all latest updates installed.
The Malware Protection Test checks not only the detection rates, but also the protection capabilities, i.e. the ability to prevent a malicious program from actually making any changes to the system. In some cases, an antivirus program may not recognize a malware sample when it is inactive but will recognize it when it is running.
Total Defense Anti-Virus awarded Advanced+ rating
We’re proud to see Total Defense Essential Anti-Virus blocked 99.95 percent of all tested malware samples and generated just 6 false positives. Based on these results, Total Defense Essential Anti-Virus was awarded the Advanced+ rating, the highest possible award.
