Opt out of data sharing agreements

Some devices – especially IoT devices – give you the choice to share data with the manufacturer. This is typically for the purpose of collecting information that might improve system performance in the future. Opting out of this agreement is a good way to ensure your information is out of harm’s way if the manufacturer should ever be compromised. And if they don’t give you that option? Look for a different device from a new manufacturer that respects your data privacy.
