Cybercriminals are beginning to take advantage of natural disasters, relief efforts and other events that may spur a lot of charitable donations. Scammers hoping to capitalize on hurricane disaster relief, for example, might set up a false donation site to fool unwitting people. By soliciting donations in the name of a reputable cause, scammers hide behind a veil of charitable credibility. In reality, they prey on donations for their own profit. Make sure the organization is reputable and vetted before donating.
